Description
Brief Description of Project Scope:
The main objective of Wan Chai Development Phase II (WDII) is to make provision for completing the missing strategic road network along the north shore of Hong Kong Island (the Central-Wan Chai Bypass and the Island Eastern Corridor Link) to alleviate traffic congestion. The land formed will provide the opportunity for enhancing the harbourfront for the enjoyment of the public.
Current Project Progress:
The proposed amendments to the draft Wan Chai North Outline Zoning Plan and North Point Outline Zoning Plan, the new reclamation scheme and the at-grade road scheme were gazetted on 27 July 2007. Having considered the unresolved objections, the Chief Executive in Council authorised the reclamation and the road schemes without modification on 19 May 2009. The project was approved by the Legislative Council Finance Committee on 3 July 2009 for upgrading to Category A. The construction works have commenced in end 2009 for envisaged completion in 2017.
